Those who love to cook could use the opportunity to spend time in the kitchen with their children.
According to Carol Price-Spurling of the Kitsap Sun, recent comments from a fellow parent caused her to consider how her household involves children in the preparation of meals.
She states that in order to make this simple there are a number of basic ingredients she is always stocked up on so that simple recipes - such as pancakes - are always an option.
"Pancakes or waffles, especially, seem to work on Sunday evenings, when we've had a big noon meal and I just don't feel like spending much time in the kitchen," Ms Price-Spurling notes.
However, she warns that kids in the kitchen often means mess and for this reason her own home rarely looks "like a Better Homes and Gardens photo shoot".
Earlier this week, Stephanie Valentine of the British Nutrition Society praised a government campaign to get kids more interested in cooking with a free cookbook entitled Real Meals.
