The cost of buying new appliances can be damaging to new couples, according to a recent survey.
The study, put together by AA Personal Loans, revealed that many newlyweds and couples are putting themselves into financial difficulty by shopping for washing machines and dishwashers for their new homes.
It said kitchen appliances represented one of the most significant purchases that young couples make and that forty per cent buy these during the first eighteen months of marriage.
Mark Huggins, head of AA Personal Loans, said that often consumers do not realise how much they will have to spend and this can leave them in trouble later.
"Many people who end up buying domestic appliances simply don't have the cash and will take a high interest payment plan offered from the retailer," he added.
The news could encourage some young couples looking at new appliances to opt for the cheaper option of repair, which can be aided with items such as
washing machine spares and
dishwasher parts.
