For those looking to extend the life of their washing machine, one expert offers some new advice.
Ann Ludlum writes in a piece for the Fort Scott Tribune this week that there are ways to ensure your washing machine is not unnecessarily overworked.
She states that by pre-treating or pre-soaking clothes and other items that are heavily soiled or stained, extra washes can be avoided and energy-hungry hot water cycles need not be used.
Ms Ludlum add that a full load should be washed wherever appropriate and adds that when this is not possible the cycle should be adjusted accordingly in terms of water levels and required temperatures.
"Heating water eats up energy, so, whenever possible, switch to the warm - or, even better, the cold setting. Rinse all loads in cold water," she concludes.
