Consumers in the market for fridge-freezer spares and microwave parts have been advised on how best to maintain their appliances.
Martha Stewart writes in a recent article for the Seattle Times that proper use of a kitchen appliance makes a huge difference to gas and electric waste and offers some tips on how to make the most of items such as fridges and microwaves.
She recommends investing in a thermometer to ensure that the fridge and freezer compartments are kept at their optimum temperature - between 36 and 40 degrees C for the fridge and between zero and five degrees C for the freezer.
"Any colder and you are using more energy than necessary," she advises.
Microwaves, she adds, should be used when single meals or reheated leftovers are being cooked as she states using a conventional oven for this is wasteful.
A number of
microwave parts are currently available including the wave guide cover, glass turntable, rubber feet and the 20w microwave lamp.
