The benefits of having a kitchen appliance that is as quiet as possible has been highlighted by a new article.

According to Ursula Sautter and Mary Desmond Pinkowish, noise pollution is something that can have serious mental and physical effects on people and as such making sure you kitchen runs silently is essential.

In a piece for the AlterNet website Ms Sautter and Pinkowish state that recent research from the American Speech-Language Association suggests a number of dishwashers, for example, operate at around 60 decibels.

"Noise brings out the worst in human beings," they claim. "Indoor sources include ventilation systems, office machines, home appliances, TVs and computer games."
