Appliance repair praised in a 'throwaway society'

07/07/2008
Repairing some appliances can be a simple an affordable solution in an otherwise "throwaway society", a new article suggests.

In a piece for the Herald Mail, Kate Coleman states that buying small appliance parts to repair much needed kitchen items can be a good thing and should be encouraged in an age where often people are more likely to replace.

She states that her own experience with a much-utilised coffee maker has revealed to her the benefits of simple repairs - which could prompt some to shop for small appliance spares.

Ms Coleman adds that by conducting her own repair she saved money and was happy to discover that "there are other people who believe that things can be fixed."

"Although many products become throwaways when they malfunction, some are worth fixing," she concludes.

Other small appliance parts that could offer a simple solution in the kitchen include microwave spares. Glass turntables, rubber feet and 20w microwave lamps are just some of these.
