Spending large sums of money on a lavish wedding is a waste and it would be better spent on appliances and improvements to the home, it has been suggested.
Sharon Owens of the Belfast Telegraph writes this week that with the average cost of a wedding in the UK and Ireland adding up to around £20,000, it is advisable to consider where the money might be better spent.
It is suggested that having a working
dishwasher is one important thing that transcends the necessity for designer dresses and other expensive wedding day luxuries.
She adds long-term happiness is based on more practical things and "frittering away a small fortune on rose petals and ice sculptures and acrylic talons" can stand in the way of this.
"Believe me you'll be very glad of that dishwasher in the years to come," she states.
For some people repairing older appliances could be an option for saving money for special occasions and by purchasing
dishwasher parts the lifespan of a current model could be extended.
