Freezer maintenance 'could save cash for other things'
By looking after your fridge-freezer and keeping appliances energy-efficient it is possible to save enough cash to counteract rising bills elsewhere, it has been suggested.

In a recent article for Suburban Journals, Cynthia Fauser cites recent figures that highlighted how much money the average home wastes by throwing away food and states that with careful maintenance this can be significantly reduced.

She states that preventative measures involving checking the temperature of the fridge as well as making sure bulbs are replaced regularly can be a step in the right direction when trying to cut down on waste.

This maintenance, she suggests, can reduce spending on food and that this has inspired her own plan "to squeeze an extra tank of gas out of my kitchen appliance by avoiding waste".

According to the Independent, recent government research revealed UK homes throw away between £420 and £610 worth of food every year.
