Appliances can be used to save water

27/05/2008
By keeping kitchen appliances such as washing machines and dishwashers maintained, consumers can reduce their water usage, it has been suggested.

An article for thisishampshire.net said this week that keeping appliances energy-efficient was essential for people who want to remain as eco-friendly as possible.

It was noted that although it was equally important to remember the small things, such as turning off the tap when brushing teeth, having an energy efficient appliance makes a significant difference to how much water is used.

"A modern dishwasher can use as little as 15 litres of water per cycle. But make sure you fill the dishwasher or you'll be wasting even more than if you were to wash up by hand," it notes.

Using a dishwasher was recently listed among ABC Action News' "15 ways to go green" article, as well as seeking out better appliance parts - such as shower heads with improved efficiency.
