Whirlpool creates new connection for fridge technology

21/05/2008
Whirlpool has announced a new partner for its Centralpark technology, meaning electrical devices can be charged from the fridge.

The appliance manufacturer has teamed with iGo to allow mobile phones, mp3 players and many other gadgets to be charged up in the fridge's docking station, reports Appliance magazine.

Whirlpool's Centralpark fridge can fit an mp3 player, laptop or digital photo frame into its port.

The concept is intended to keep the kitchen clutter free and more interactive, said the website.

It is thought the fridge will have a WiFi adapter meaning users can connect to the internet and access weather, news and sport updates.

The new iGo partnership will mean up to 2,700 different gadgets can be connected, with the use of tips, which can vary its compatibility to devices.

Whirlpool's new device "provides an additional option to families with varying needs", according to the website.

The Centralpark fridge has been recommended by the Good Housekeeping Research Institute, which was impressed with its ability to accommodate electrical appliances.
