Lawns need to be maintained for summer
19/05/2008
Many people are using their gardens more and more in the summer for entertaining and enjoying the British weather, meaning keeping a trim and healthy lawn is more important than ever.
Gardenandgreen.co.uk has said a healthy, well kept garden can add up to £5,000 to your home's value, meaning simple, low-cost maintenance is essential.
"Regular mowing is vital," according to the website, as it maintains the lawns texture and condition.
To mow effectively the blades should be kept sharp and the lawn should not be cut too short, with 2.5 cm being the ideal height, with this being increased as the summer approaches to defend against drought.
If your mower does not collect the clippings then rake them up as they look ugly and can also encourage disease on the lawn.
Flymo produces a garden vacuum which collects grass clippings as well as leaves and other garden debris.
The machine has a jet vacuum for picking up wet leaves and also shreds the material to allow it to compact down.
