Eco cleaning products 'require a bit more work'

- 19/05/2008
Many households are looking to go green on all aspects of their home, however some users of eco cleaning products are disappointed with their performance.

Anna Heywood, an expert on cleaning in The Journal, says that users of ecological products looking for equal cleaning performance to conventional cleaners will "be disappointed".

She adds that "Flash is made up [of] very strong chemicals, which as I'm sure you are aware, starts to remove dirt and grime as soon as it touches the bath or sink."

However, eco cleaners are as effective but just take more time and "a bit of extra work".

The case is the same with ecological detergents, with stained clothes needing to be pre-treated and given a scrub, to ensure it is removed.

Household items like white vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, lemons and olive oil can all be used to clean homes, for a truly natural remedy, Ms Heywood suggests.

Seventh Generation, a producer of natural cleaning products, said that eco products can help users maintain their health.
