Buying a dishwasher can save water

14/05/2008
Buying a dishwasher can save water, as washing up by hand uses a large amount, according to a newspaper.

The Manchester Evening News reports that washing dishes in the sink can use more water than a dishwasher would, especially if the dishes are rinsed off afterwards.

Other ways to save water in the home include only putting a full load of washing on, rather than doing two half loads.

This will result in saving not only water, but also money.

Mending a dripping tap can pay dividends, both ecologically and financially, as up to 5,500 litres of water can be wasted each year in this way.

Those on a water metre can also save £18 per year.

A survey recent found that 80 per cent of British people did not rate water shortages as a priority when looking at environmental issues.

Experts think that flooding and excessive rainfall so far this year has led to people being less concerned about water usage.
