Aga predicts low sales in cooker sector

09/05/2008
Aga, the manufacturer of the famous range stove, said that cooker sales have dropped this year in most markets but that the drop in house buying will lead to an increase.

However, the company said it expects progress in the market in the year ahead as the slowdown in people buying new homes continues, reports Hemscott.com.

Representatives highlighted Ireland as a very weak market for the firm's cast iron cookers and predicted a decrease in sales in the country.

In the UK sales were estimated to stay the same, with orders on the Rangemaster cooker currently being five per cent higher this year.

The Fired Earth sector of the business has improved over the year and has seen a ten per cent increase since last year.

Vic Cocker, the company's chairman, said that sales of the UK had made a "bright start" this year, ahead of the annual shareholder market.

In related news, a cooker firm which once had £2 million turnover has now ceased trading.
