Gardeners should prepare for hot climate

The Met Office has warned gardeners to cater for the warm weather in their outside space, by planting things like palms and olives.
It is believed by the office that this year will be one of the hottest ever and that gardeners should prepare for this, reports the Times.
Vicky Pope the Met Office's head of climate change said: "If you are planting long-lived plants like trees then you might want to choose a species that can cope with hotter, drier, summers and warmer, wetter, winters."
Charlie Dimmock, the celebrity gardener, added that the best way to protect the garden from climate change is to use "heat-tolerant plants" and making sure the area has "good soil".
Guy Barter, who oversees the Royal Horticultural Show's advisory service, said the best lawns will be seen in the Lake District and the west coast of Scotland.
Recent research by the Waste and Resources Action Programme found that over half of gardeners said the grass cutting season was longer.
The Evening Post recently reported that gardeners should ensure the lawn is entirely dry before mowing it for the first time, to avoid damaging it.
