Brits getting back in the kitchen
01/05/2008
A new survey has revealed that Brits are eager to bin the microwave and get back into the kitchen.
New cookware and features on it will enable people in the UK to create not just home cooked food, but also ethnic meals, reports DIYWeek.
Research from Mintel has found that 41 per cent of people now cook their meals from scratch, compared to 24 per cent five years ago.
The microwave is now only used by 11 per cent of people to cook their evening meal.
Richard Caines, a senior homeware specialist, told the website: "It is clear that Brits are keen to get back in the kitchen and rekindle their love affair with good old fashioned home-cooked."
He added that this may arise from a want to be healthier and try more dishes.
This new-found love has caused an increase in spending on cookware, with Brits forking out £0.5 billion last year.
Almost half think it is worth paying more to get better quality products, with 33 per cent buying on the basis of what is on offer.
Miele has recently launched a product which aims to make home cooking easier, as it has 100 preset programmes on it, to cook a variety of food.
