Sand on the lawn will keep in healthy
30/04/2008
Putting sand on your lawn and regular raking will help to maintain a healthy lawn before the summer.
Those getting out in the garden ahead of the summer should sprinkle the lawn liberally with sand to keep moss at bay, reports the Sunday Mail.
However, the gardeners among us should not be concerned if the lawn turns black after a period of time, this means the moss has died and the treatment has been effective.
Raking the dead moss out will bring the healthy green colour back to the turf and bring it to its former glory, according to Carolyn Spray in her advice column for the paper.
She also advises that those gardeners who have a camellia in a pot should ensure it is well fed and watered, or it may stop flowering.
Water-retaining granules can be used to ensure the soil remains healthy and full of water.
A recent survey by the Consumer Reports National Research Centre showed that most people envy their neighbour's lawn.
