Appliance noise helps babies to sleep

21/04/2008
One mother has used the sound of appliances like washing machines and dishwasher to help send babies to sleep.

Lynda Harding, a nursery owner and mother of six, has developed a mattress which gently rocks the baby and plays sounds at the same time, reports the News.

The mattress, which is intended to help get babies to sleep, will play white noise, such as the whirr of a dishwasher to soothe babies to sleep.

Extra testing on the mattress will take place this week at Brighton University to find out how effective the mattress actually is, reports the website.

One researcher from the university said the invention could help in the fight against cot death, by keeping babies on their back.

Mrs Harding said: "Things are going really well and I am so grateful to the parents for helping out."

In related news, natural cleaning products which are better for the health of the user and their family, have also been found to be ecologically sound.
