Cleaning products which are less harmful to the user's health are more likely to be ecologically sound, according to one expert.
Seventh Generation has said that people are more concerned about "maintaining their health" and that this will lead to more users converting to natural cleaning products.
Jeffrey Hollender, chief executive officer of the company, said: "Almost in all cases, products that are safer for you to use are far better for the environment.
"We are all being increasingly educated about the things that we do that cause health problems and we are seeing a huge shift."
He added that products which contained oil should be avoided for environmental reasons, as it is a non-renewable source.
Mr Hollender continued to say that the products perform comparably to traditional cleaning products, saying that a common misconception is that they are not as effective.
A study, published last year, said that household cleaning sprays, particularly air fresheners, furniture cleaners and glass cleaners, increased the risk of asthma.
