RIAS, a home insurance cover provider, has said that people are not checking what their insurance covers and are not taking enough precautions to protect their valuables.
Janet Connor, managing director of RIAS, told the website: "We strongly advise people to check their home insurance policy today, and make sure additional provision for garden cover is added if it is not there already."
Simple steps which can be taken include locking garage and shed doors, installing security lighting and fitting fences.
