Electrolux to expand in Asia and Africa

26/03/2008
Electrolux is planning to expand its market share of fridges in west Asia and Africa.

The appliance company has launched a new range of direct cool and frost-free fridges to be exported the country.

Anirudh Dhoot, chief executive officer at Videocon Industries, said: "After six months of its commencement, the plan is to export refrigerators to SAARC countries, Africa and Middle East, besides serving the domestic market."

A new base will be opened next month in Uttarakhand in India which will manufacture fridges and later other appliances like microwaves and washing machines.

Currently washing machines, air conditioners and microwaves are imported from China and Thailand, but Mr Dhoot says this will reduce when the factory is fully operational.

"We are strengthening our distribution in rural areas with an aim to penetrate deeper," he said, adding that specific sales campaigns will be run in the regions.

Electrolux manufactures fridges, dishwashers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners and cookers, supplying 40 million products to customers in 150 countries each year.
