Face of the kitchen is changing

25/03/2008
Kitchens have changed over the years, from a place where housewives spent their time to a hub of entertainment and cooking, for both men and women.

The appearance of the kitchen has changed with the transformation in its use, with more appliances and gizmos being featured, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Kitchen design has altered as it is being integrated into living areas, with more than one texture or colour being incorporated.

Larger kitchens often feature a pantry, which houses appliances like the dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle and microwave, meaning preparation is out of sight.

The occurrence of plain glass splash backs is declining, with stronger colours being used instead in materials like tiles, says the newspaper.

A once ordinary feature of the drawer has become more sought after as a storage space, now being as popular as the cupboard.

Combi-ovens are the new must-have of the appliance world, which incorporate microwave and conventional oven technology.

It was recently reported that inducted cookertops were also a growing trend in modern kitchens, due to their efficiency and ease of use.
