Stainless steel appliances 'have peaked'
28/02/2008
The trend of stainless steel appliances has "peaked", with more people opting for black or darker finishes, says an expert.
Mark Karas, vice president of the National Kitchen and Bath Association, said he doesn't think stainless steel is going away, but just that it won't get any more popular, reports The Plain Dealer.
"I think stainless has peaked," Marc Blumenthal, vice president of B&B Appliances added, saying that when people are remodelling "they look at it like a clean slate, a chance to do something new".
Mr Karas said that more people are choosing black or darker coloured appliances and kitchens rather than white or stainless steel.
White appliances can create problems for some homeowners, as different manufacturers produce alternative shades of white, meaning they may not match.
Of the other new kitchen trends coming in integrated appliances are becoming more popular, reports the website.
People look for a more seamless look, with panels being fitted onto fridges and dishwashers to make them blend into the kitchen.
ATAG recently launched a graphite black fridge which has been described by Easier Property as a style statement.
