The UK's oldest fridge competition has been won by a couple in the Wirral who own a 55-year-old fridge, according to a source.
Betty and Graham Guntrip won the contest hosted by Time to Change campaign, which aims to get people to swap their old appliance for modern, energy efficient ones, reports the Liverpool Daily Post.
Mr Guntrip, 85, said: "We bought it in 1953. Its a Bosch and it has been in use ever since its never failed or needed to be repaired.
"The plastic inside had deteriorated a bit but I did a Heath Robinson bit and mended it, and it has been fine."
Mr and Mrs Guntrip's appliance is still working today, but the couple has won a replacement fridge in the competition, said the newspaper.
They can choose from a variety of AEG-
Electrolux, Siemens and
Hotpoint models.
Mr Guntrip told the newspaper that he did not think the new fridge would last as long, but was looking forward to receiving the new appliance.
