Listening for warning signs
Upright cleaners can suffer from damage to the fan blades, since the dirt and debris passes directly from the floor over the fan.
Avoid vacuuming coins or hard objects, which could cause problems. If the cleaner is labouring or making an unusual noise, switch it off and unplug it immediately, then check the bag, filters and tube for blockages.
