Vacuum Cleaner Maintenance Guide
Keeping a vacuum cleaner free from blockages and obstructions can help to avoid expensive repair bills. Replace a dust bag, or clean out a cloth bag before it is full, and check the filters regularly. Do not reuse paper bags.

- Test bag full indicator
Put your hand over the end of the hose to reduce air pressure and simulate "bag full" conditions.
- Check hose for blockages
Unscrew and examine the ends of the tubing for fluff obstructions. Drop a coin through the hose to locate internal blockages.
- Clean brush roll on upright cleaners
Also, check for threads or hair wrapped around the shaft or belt, and remove by cutting carefully with scissors.

- Replace exhaust filters
If the vacuum cleaner has a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arresting) exhaust filter, change it regularly.
