After each use
Check condition of mains flex
Because the flex is constantly being moved, and is vulnerable to damage from the nylon line, it should be checked regularly for cuts.
Clean/inspect cutting area
The cutting area must be kept clear of dried grass and dirt.

Check guard fixing and condition
Make sure spool, cover and guard are mounted properly and are not damaged.
Lubricate where necessary
Consult the manufacturer's manual to see whether the trimmer needs lubrication. If so, check where the lubrication points are located.
