I get an E40 Error, but the Interlock sounds like it is trying to work

The interlock clicks like it always has when I start the machine, then beeps and says E40. Is there a way to tell if the interlock is the problem and needs replacing? Its a John Lewis JLWM1407

    It is likely a new lock will resolve the problem.
