How to Replace a Fridge Door Seal

A fridge with a faulty seal uses more energy than it needs to. Your door gasket needs to be replaced if the fridge door isn't closing properly. Generally speaking, if the door is shut, and you can slip a £5 note between the seal and the door frame, it's time for a replacement.

First of all though, just check the seal for any signs of damage - if the appliance is not level, it could lead to the door not sealing correctly.

If you need to replace the door gasket but are unsure where to start, there’s no need to panic. We’ll talk you through how to successfully replace the door seal without damaging your fridge.

There are various ways in which a door seal can be removed, and it depends on your particular model. In this video, it is a simple case of pulling the gasket away from the door. However, on other models, you might need to cut the seal away. On older models there may be screws under the gasket that will need to be removed.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.

Step 2 - Removing The Old Seal

It really is easy...all you need to do is place your thumb underneath the seal, and then proceed to run it around the underside of your seal - and it can then be gently lifted away from your door. There you go, the old gasket has been removed!

Step 3 - Fitting New Seal

Right then - time to get your new seal fixed now! The best way to fit it is starting at the top corners, you just need to press the new seal into place (be sure to press quite firmly, to make sure it's locking in place). Then push the seal into the channel between the corners, before fitting the bottom corners and fit between. Lastly work evenly at the top then the bottom to the middle helping spread any excess evenly on the longest part of the seal, there you go - all done!

Congratulations - you have now successfully been able to replace your fridge door seal! You can now get back to being able to have the fridge door sealed correctly once again!
