Hi, I'm Helen from eSpares.
If you're experiencing a loss of suction in your Bosch vacuum cleaner, it'll be due to one of five reasons:
- Gaps in the air flow
- The motor
So let's start with bags. It's going to sound really obvious, but the first thing to check is that the bag's not full because if it is, then it will be causing a loss of suction. Also check for any holes or rips in the bag. When replacing bags, always try and get Bosch genuine bags rather than the cheaper, non-branded equivalent because the genuine bags will be better quality. If you've got a bagless Bosch, then make sure that you empty the dust container regularly.
Now moving onto filters, this model has two filters: a pre-motor filter, and a post-motor or exhaust filter, and this is a HEPA filter. The pre-motor filter is washable, to do this, rinse it under warm water and then leave to air-dry for about 24 hours. If it's damaged or in a really bad state, you can replace it. The HEPA filter is not washable and it should be replaced at least once a year.
Next is blockages, it's really easy for something to get lodged in the hose or the extension tube, so you can check visually and you can also feel your way along the hose and you can use something like a coat hanger to get into the extension tube.
Next up is gaps in the air flow. Now this is what a new Bosch hose looks like, but over time the plastic can degrade and coupled with the fact that most people pull their vacuum cleaner along by the hose, it can end up looking something like this. Now this is a pretty extreme example, but even the smallest hole or rip can cause a loss of suction.
Lastly, if you've tried all of the above and you're still experiencing a loss of suction, then it's probably due to the motor. Now the motors in all Bosch vacuum cleaners are replaceable. It's not the easiest of jobs but it's certainly doable, and you may find that you don't need to replace the whole motor, just the carbon brushes in the motor.
