Has your vacuum's suction been letting you down? It's usually due to one of five reasons. Watch as Helen demonstrates the most common causes of loss of suction in a modern Numatic vacuum cleaner.
Hi, I'm Helen from eSpares.
If you're experiencing a loss of suction in your Numatic vacuum cleaner, like this Henry, then it'll be due to one of five reasons:
- Gaps in the air flow
- The motor
So let's start with bags. Now, it's going to sound really obvious, but the first thing to check is if the bag's full because if it is, you'll experience a loss of suction. Also check for any holes or rips in the bag. Now, when replacing bags, we recommend that you always get the genuine replacements rather than a cheaper, non-branded alternative because the genuine ones will be much better quality.
Now, filters - all Numatic vacuum cleaners have these big bucket-type filters and they're washable, so all you have to do is remove the filter grid, rinse it under warm water and leave to air-dry for about 24 hours. Now when you're re-fitting it, always make sure you put the filter grid back in, otherwise this is will cause a huge loss of suction. If you lose this, or your filter's in a really bad way or damaged, they're both replaceable.
Next is blockages - now, it's very easy for something to get lodged in the hose or the extension tube, so you can check visually and by feeling. You can use something like a coat hanger to get into the extension tube.
And next up is gaps in the air flow. Now this is what a new hose looks like, but over time the plastic degrades and coupled with the fact that everyone pulls their Henry along by the hose, it can end up looking something like this. This is quite an extreme example, but even the smallest rip or hole can cause a loss of suction.
Lastly, if you've tried all of the above and you're still experiencing a loss of suction, it's probably due to the motor. Now all Numatic motors are replaceable, but it is quite a big job. It is do-able though, and you might find that you don't need to replace the whole motor, just the carbon brushes in the motor which are available separately.
Bags, filters, hoses, extension tubes, motors and carbon brushes for all models in the Numatic range are available on the eSpares website.
Thanks for watching.
